Thinking About...Community. How all our hearts yearn for it. To be wanted. To be needed. To belong. We find community in many different places: family, friends, church, ministry, cyberspace ;).  In some respects it is easy to find, BUT hard to cultivate, nurture and grow.  It is something that has to be natural, organic and have a base of commonality.

I have been thinking how I can better serve others around me from the people closest to me- to the people you randomly encounter in your day.  I want to be a light. I want to leave a positive impact on the world- and even greater I want people to understand the love of Christ through me.

We are very blessed to live in a place where we are surrounded by family and life-long friends. Community is at our finger tips all the time, but can be so easily taken for granted and not cultivated.  Community needs to be purposeful. Intentional. If we forget to put forth the effort to get together and invest in the each others lives....community is lost. So even when community is easily found, it can be difficult to make it really come together.

We are blessed that this weekend we were intentional. We made an effort. We spent time just to be together. For that I am grateful. I hope I can continue to learn to cultivate community in the lives of the people the Lord has put into my life.

Watching... My Son grow up TOOOOO fast. He just cut his first tooth and he just looks so darn old. Stop it Charlie. Just Stop!

Listening to... The Sergio Mendes Pandora channel. With World Cup being in Brazil and hearing the theme song over and over we have been inspired by the music, so Mike put on this channel and we are hooked! This channel is the best- its relaxing, beautiful and makes me really want to travel.

Thankful For... Living in a beautiful place. The Lord moves me through nature and I can feel my heart soaring when I am inspired by the beauty HE has created.

What about you? What are you CURRENTLY up to?

  1. Charlie is adorable! Yay for his first tooth, hope it wasn't too painful for the poor little guy! :)

    Nature really is a beautiful thing isn't it, I feel most alive when I'm by the ocean or in the mountains.

    Glad you had a great week! :)

    1. Tawnya! Charlie was actually sick when he was cutting his tooth, so I didn't really notice any normal teething symptoms, he is a happy trooper though! It looks like you live in a beautiful place too....umm and your vacation coming up?! ok still jealous. =)

  3. I love what you said about community - it's definitely something that needs to be culminated! If we take it for granted, it starts to fade. Thanks for the sweet reminder!

    PS: I'm betting our second-borns are around the same age! My little girl is cutting her first tooth as well. :-)

  4. Since becoming a mom, I've had difficulty connecting with a community of families we can be a part of. I miss it a lot. The danger of the online media is so many people "connect" via the online outlet but aren't very good about connecting in real life. I'm hoping over the next few months to figure out concrete ways to help build up a faith-based community of young families in our area where we can mutually help one another and build each other up. Community is SO important!!

  5. {That wasn't to denigrate online community because it is VERY MUCH needed and appreciated too. But being people in the flesh, we need that sort of contact too.}
